How A Family Can Change When A Child Dies
Yes, a family can change after a child dies, but when that child dies because of suicide, the family has to look deep within themselves and find the strength to see what they could have done to help their child from feeling so desperate that they felt death was the only option. Bobby Griffith was troubled about his sexuality and his mother was the first to tell him he could change, God would help him.
She was an advocate for God, trying to save her son from a life of being gay. She took him to the church. She insisted that God wanted him to be straight. Mary Griffith had no idea what was happening to her son. She just believed as many do that God did not want anyone to be gay. After the death of her son, she learned something herself.
Mary Griffith learned that the there was nothing wrong with her son in God’s eyes because her son was created in God’s image. He was not sick and did not need to be cured. He was a child of God no matter what his sexual orientation was.
Mary Griffith is now an advocate that helps kids come to terms with their own sexuality and accept their life. She is no longer trying to cure the gay and save them from damnation as she did her son.
A Lifetime movie is being made about Mary and Bobby’s ordeal. It will hopefully be a movie that all will watch and listen too. It is a movie that everyone who thinks that being gay is wrong needs to watch.
This could have been your child. Believing that one will not be gay because they read the bible and go to church was what this mother thought and she lost her son to suicide.
Parents need to accept their children no matter what they think or believe in. Believe in your children or they might be lost forever. Tell your children you love them and do not judge them for the life they live.
I will keep a close watch on the schedule to see when this movie comes out on Lifetime and post it here.
