Two Sided American Family Association Bad For The World
The AFA is against same sex relationships, but they uphold spanking of children. Now I see nothing wrong with a spanking now and then so children will learn, but to stick your nose in an investigation by the government as to the strict punishments going on at Greendale Baptist Church School is going to far. The school came under suspicion for having corporal punishment that may have bordered on child abuse.
Social workers wanted to talk to a fourth grade student who was punished in the school. No word on how that finally played out, but a member of the AFA took matters into his own hands by linking the Greendale Baptist Church to his Anthrax mailing to government officials. He gave the return address as the church.
The government social workers did get to talk to the boy because the state law says that officials can talk to the boy with consent of his parents in such cases. The American Family Association along with the boy’s parents and the school filed a lawsuit against the government. What was the purpose of the lawsuit? The interview violated their constitutional rights against unlawful seizures and searches.
The AFA said that they had no idea that their name was being associated with a terrorist attack. However, they had strong feeling about the government interfering in the churches punishment style. The case was sited in the monthly newsletter that the AFA sends to its members and Ivins received this publication, which may have sparked the Anthrax mailing. Since he killed himself, no one is ever going to know for sure.
The summary of the story is that the AFA will allow children to be punished and protect the rights of the school to punish a child, but they think that same sex relationships are bad. There should be a boycott of the AFA by people that are themselves, Christians. This group is not making Christianity look very promising to anyone. Protecting a school and parents, but not the child is appalling.
They accept possible child abuse, but deny same sex relationships that hurt no one.
What do you think about that?
