March Across Brooklyn Bridge For Legalizing Gay Marriages
For the last five years, gay and lesbian couples have marched across the New York Brooklyn Bridge in hopes of New York passing a bill that would recognize same sex marriages. Although the bill has passed the New York Assembly, it still has to be passed by the mostly dominated Republican Senate. Governor David Paterson was instrumental in presenting the bill to the Assembly.
Paterson believes that same sex couples that marry in other states or countries should be recognized in New York as being a legally married couple. The Senate just needs to vote on this bill for it to go into the law books. Will the Republicans agree with Paterson and the Assembly or will they once again shoot down equal rights for all.
The wedding march across the Brooklyn Bridge will continue every year until New York reaches an agreement that same set couples should have equal rights that other married couples have. Although Paterson backs a bill recognizing same sex marriages, he may be the only one. The state of New York needs to agree to vote the bill into law so that their citizens can count.

This is one of the topics that makes me crazy. I, honestly, just don’t get it. It could be that I am naive in my old age, I don’t know.
It is in the constitution that all “men” are created equal. That we have the same rights. The Civil Rights Movement pushed this further. I would think that it would only be obvious that gay and lesbian couples have the same rights.
What I don’t understand is how they are seen as different. They are just like us straight folks except for who they love. I just don’t get it. I don’t think I ever will.

That is the thing I don’t understand. Everyone is created egual and deserve the same rights, yet if someone lables you, then you have to fight for your equal rights.
There should be no reason to fight for what is supposed to be yours in the first place.
I heard that the federal government is now saying, even if there is a state law that federal law is still against it, so there for the laws that have passed on this issue are no good. I think this is due to they say Federal law supercedes any State law. Not sure of my spelling today, but is this true?

Well federal law does superceed state law, but if they are going to start enforcing this issue with gay marriages and recognition, they are going to start a new probelm with the states and the people.
Up to now the states have been allowed to dictate their own laws regarding gay issues. If the federal government steps in, it would have to backstep everything that has been voted on over the past few years.
This means they would be taking the stance against gays and would have to undo what has already been accomplished.
That alone would divide the country even more.
I think love, no matter what, is a wonderful thing. Hopefully they won’t be marching long. I loved your post.
I have been doing some new bill search in the SC government and found out that a bill has already been passed in the Upstate to add to the Constitution that marriage is only held in this state by one man and one woman. I have yet to even hear about this on the news or anything. How could they have passed something without the public even hearing about it?
That is a good question. I know that most states are having a vote on changing the law to define a man and a woman. I would be curious to know how they did that.
