Gay Teen Suicide On Video

The video is a classroom project done by Judah Travis in 2006. The statistics have changed, but the same reason is always the same. Gay and lesbian teens feel alone. They feel they have nowhere to turn or no one to talk to. Teens need to have support. The Gay Straight Alliance is needed in every school. Early education that teaches that being gay or lesbian is needed so that kids like this one do not feel all along and isolated. Isolation kills in one way or another. Acceptance is what must be. Everyone is created equal no matter what anyone thinks.

A friend of mine and her partner have a production company for local shows. They have branched off to include gay/lesbian teens to try to mentor them.

They are making progress in reaching out to kids and making them feel comfortable in their own skin.

I sometimes forget that it was only 14 years ago that I was in HS and we had nothing like this. There were the kids we knew were gay, but none of them were out.

The whole idea of so many suicides in the gay community, I think is proof to those who question it that it is NOT a choice to be gay. The internal struggle is that evidence.

When I went to school you knew, but it was never talked about. Now, kids are more open because they want to live and be happy. Unfortunately, this is not always possible because of the way people treat others. I think everyone has the right to live the way they want.
