What Is The Sanctity Of Marriage

Published by blondiewrites at 8:56 am under Same Sex Marriages Edit This

You hear all these people talking about the sanctity of marriage as a reason they are opposed to same sex marriages. What is the sanctity of marriage that would be harmed if same sex couples were to marry?

David Popenoe is the co-author of “The State of Out Unions” has stated that more than fifty percent of all marriages will end in divorce. Why is this percentage so high even before allowing same sex marriages? Because people do not marry for life. It is known that couples marry at a young age and then as they grow they need something more in their lives, thus the cheating, fighting and breakdown of communication.

Many same sex couples that have married in California have been together in a relationship for years and still love each other today as they did the day they met. It is in the opinion of this writer that same sex couples understand the sanctity of marriage and commitment more than heterosexual couples do.

Before any government office, including the President and those running for Presidency quote the sanctity of marriage as a reason for banning same sex marriages, they must ban divorce of heterosexual couples to preserve the sanctity of marriage. Once they do this, then yes, they will have the right to ban same sex marriages.

Until the day that divorce by heterosexual couples is banned, gay couples do have the same rights to marry. The sanctity of marriage does not mean anything if people can get a divorce.
