I am Not Gay I am Straight
I recently had the opportunity to hear a conversation between a guy and a girl, where the guy was swearing up and down that he was not gay. The reason that I listened to the conversation was that I knew that this person was gay and I had a hard time understanding why he was insistent that he indeed not gay.
I guess I was more confused than anything while I listen to this pathetic conversation. I know the girl was just as confused as I was. I am not sure why people try to hide who they are and especially when others know that they are indeed gay. What makes a person do something like this?
We don’t live in a town that shows discrimination like other cities and states, but he was still insisting that he was not gay. I wanted to ask him why he was saying that, but I was not sure how to say it since I didn’t know what his reasons were in the first place. The guy knew I was there and he knows that I know he is gay, so that made it even more confusing.
What do you think? What would make a person say this when people know he is indeed gay? Is there something I am missing?

fear - plain and simple. I did it for 15 years. Because the longer you deny it to everyone around you, the more convincing it supposedly seems. It’s fear of ridicule, fear of rejection, fear of discimination - its a million things that will hold a person back from being true to themselves
and trust me when I say it’s hard - if anything give him your sympathy because some sort of fear is holding him back from the truth…
