Do We Need Gay Friendly Schools

The answer I give may surprise you, but I feel that gay friendly schools are not needed. The schools that we have should be fine for any child to attend whether they are gay or straight. The idea of building and making schools for a special cause is ridiculous. Who is going to learn respect and acceptance if they are allowed to choose a school to attend? Blacks, gays, straights, Asians, Spanish, Jamaican, Hmong and any other child should go to school in their school district and be taught to accept all of their peers.

Allowing schools to discriminate or to allow discrimination in schools is where the problem lies. Stop the schools from overlooking the need for acceptance of all. Building schools where only straight and gay students that get along with each other is not the answer. Making the schools we have more acceptable of all kids is what is needed. Train teachers and principles to be teach children respect and acceptance. Send letters out to parents, (the ones that care anyways) saying that kids will have to get along and accept each other or face detention or possible expulsion.

Teachers, parents and principles, take back control of the schools and teach respect and acceptance instead of looking for any easy way out. Work for your money (principles that is).

Justine Needs A Permanent Home

Justine is a normal teenager with a love of sports and has a very open personality. She is able to be legally adopted by a suitable family. She wants to go to a family that will keep her motivated in sports. Justine is white, follows the rules of the home, and does her chores. She is into weightlifting and basketball. Justine belongs to the Gay Straight Alliance at school. Justine is going to attend college where she would like to seek a degree in fitness and sports. She wants a two-parent home that can give her the love she needs. The family does not have to have other children in it. Applicants must go through the Massachusetts parenting training and have a in home interview with a social worker.

I hope that Justine does find a family to call her own. The fact that they felt it necessary to say that she belongs to the GSA, may turn off heterosexual couples who have closed minds. She is a normal kid that belongs to an organization and that does not make her any less of a person. You do not even know if she is gay or straight, but some people will immediately jump to the conclusion.

To learn more about Justine, you can call 617-542-3678, the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange or visit www.mareinc.org.

Westboro Baptist Church Protests In Milwaukee Wisconsin

Milwaukee, Wisconsin was the place that Westboro Baptist Church and Shirley Phelps decided to protest on Friday, October 10, 2008. They were protesting at Hamilton High School against the Gay Straight Alliance. Many parents chose to keep their children out of harms way, but police say that the protest had no arrests only exchanges of words. There were protesters from Westboro on one side of the street and protesters against the Westboro church on the other side.

This video is what Shirley Phelps is all about. The actual video from yesterday’s protest is not available at this time. This is the same woman that protests soldiers funerals and accepts killings as the work of God for the people that sin or agree with sinners. She has proved to the world to be mentally unstable not religious.

Gay Teen Suicide On Video

The video is a classroom project done by Judah Travis in 2006. The statistics have changed, but the same reason is always the same. Gay and lesbian teens feel alone. They feel they have nowhere to turn or no one to talk to. Teens need to have support. The Gay Straight Alliance is needed in every school. Early education that teaches that being gay or lesbian is needed so that kids like this one do not feel all along and isolated. Isolation kills in one way or another. Acceptance is what must be. Everyone is created equal no matter what anyone thinks.

A Father Confronts Harper Junior High School Students

This video is from 2006. The reason I think it is important is because the school did nothing to help this mans son. The son was being harassed at school because his father is gay. It is a little long, but after you hear what this man has to say, it will give you a better idea about why schools need to have the GSA for support and teaching acceptance.

She Formed The GSA At Her School And

This is an inspirational video that tells a girls story from starting the Gay Straight Alliance at her school and what she went through to get changes in the way the school recognized the group. This is very well put together and won 2nd place in the 2007 NCAC contest.

Chicago To Build A School For Gay Students

Chicago has decided to build a school for gay students to avoid any problems within the school system among gay and straight students. I am not sure if all parents and students promote this idea, but does going backwards with segregation really solve anything? Shouldn’t schools promote acceptance and peace instead of segregation? The school system should be looking for a way to promote equality instead.

It is starting to look as if home schooling is the only way for children to get an education and learn about how to accept people for who they are instead of being taught the opposite in the public school systems. That is the problem with the world today. Instead of looking for ways to encourage acceptance and promote respect, they look for the easy way out. Back to the old days of segregation for gay students in Chicago, Illinois.

Do you think segregation is a healthy way to raise children?

Gay Straight Alliance In North High School

I just got word that one school in the city I live in will be having some great things going on this year. It seems that the leader of the group when away this summer to attend a leadership training and learned a great deal. She is working on some very interesting things for the coming year besides the Day of Silence, World Aids Day and Ally Week.

To start the school year out the GSA placed a table out for freshman orientation and donated raffle bags. The brochures and other reading materials will tell the freshman coming into the school all about the group. The group seems to have everything taken care of and should have a good year and some new members.

I look forward to talking to her and finding out what some of the other things are that she has planned for the school year.
